Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini will engage with different Non-profit Organisations (NPOs) with the aim of addressing the current funding crisis within the NPO sector. Lack of funding and communication within Social Development Department has been identified as the major challenges between the sector and the department. Funding crisis has left many organisations collapsing while others are on the brink of collapse.
Last week Friday, Minister launched the department project plan in Limpopo with the aim of opening the lines of communication with the sector. South African civil society organisations are characterised by diversities stemming from, amongst others, the circumstances and purposes of their establishment, scope of their operations as well as their structural formations. These factors stand them in good condition to identify and respond to community needs by providing programmes, services and support in order to improve people lives, particularly where markets have failed and where government have not reach-out.
Minister will have an opportunity to interact with members of NPOs through dialogues which will culminate into an all-inclusive national consultative summit drawing together all relevant stakeholders and other role-players later this year. These dialogues will also take place in all provinces across the country. The Minister will be accompanied by Deputy Minister of Social Development Ms Maria Ntuli and MEC for Social Development in the Western Cape, MrAlbert Fritz.
The event will unfold as follows:
Date: Wednesday, 20 June 2012
Time: 9h00
Venue: Gugulethu Sports Complex, Gugulethu, Cape Town
Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the dialogues.
