Minister awards bursaries to top performers

The top six performing students in the Hammanskraal area will be awarded bursaries to further their studies and improve their lives and those of their families. This was the promise made by the Minister of Public Works, Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde to the community of Hammanskraal in Tshwane, at a Christmas party which she hosted for the community on 13 December 2010. The Minister heads a Parliamentary Constituency Office in the area.

“The education of a child is the fuel that drives a community and a nation forward,” said the Minister. This announcement came as no surprise to the members of the community who have come to expect these kind of announcements from a Minister who, in the past year alone, has given the community a sense of importance and brought back the feeling of hope by solving many of the problems that the community has had to live with for many years.

On the 6th of January 2011 from 12h00 to 12h30, the day that last year’s matriculants will be receiving their results, the Minister will fulfil her promise to the students and the community. Minister Mahlangu-Nkabinde will be in Hammanskraal, at Makgoba Sebothoma Hall to present the bursaries to the students at a luncheon to be hosted for them, their families and their teachers. The bursaries have been provided by the Independent Development Trust (IDT), Agrément South Africa and Council for Built Environment (CBE), all of which are entities within the Department of Public Works.
