Memorial service for provincial Traffic Officer, Johan du Preez

The North West Department of Public Safety is to hold a memorial service in honour of the late Johannes (Johan) Du Preez tomorrow Tuesday, 11 August 2009 at the Old Town Hall building, corners Beyers Naude and Fatima Bhayat streets in Rustenburg.

The service for du Preez, a provincial Traffic Officer who died following a shooting incident at the provincial traffic Rustenburg sub-district residence commences at 10h00.

The funeral service for du Preez who is survived by his wife and six year old son is to be held on Wednesday 10h30 at the NG Church, Cnr Beneden and Zendeling streets in Rustenburg.

Police are investigating a case of possible suicide after the deceased allegedly shot himself in the mouth with a service firearm following a family argument last Wednesday. Paramedics who responded to the incident rushed him to Fern Crest hospital; however, he was certified dead on arrival.

MEC Howard Yawa had earlier expressed heartfelt condolences to du Preez’s family, colleagues and friends and urged employees of the department to come forward for counselling and support whenever they experience situations that put them under extreme pressure either in their private lives or at work.
