Meeting with Reitz schools, community and other stakeholders

The MEC for Education in the Free State, Mr Tate Makgoe, accompanied by the acting Head of Department (HOD), executive and senior management, will on Thursday, 20 May 2009 meet the mentioned education stakeholders to resolve the situation at Petsana Schools, Reitz in Thabo Mofutsanyana District.

Background

After numerous meetings and discussions with stakeholders in Petsana, Reitz, it was decided to register and de-register certain grades at schools in Petsana.

A total of 526 learners of Rehatelapele Primary were housed in churches due to the fact that there was no accommodation at their school or any other school in Petsana, Reitz. At the end of 2008 Khotso-Uxolo Secondary School moved into their new school building, providing space to accommodate other learners.

There were 40 empty classrooms available in the schools in Petsana, more than enough to accommodate the learners housed in the churches. By de-registering and registering new grades it was possible to ensure all learners in Petsana, Reitz, are accommodated in the existing schools in Petsana.

Due to the current situation at Petsana, where effective learning and teaching are adversely affected, the MEC and his entourage’s mission is to normalise the existing abnormal situation at Petsana, Reitz.
