Meeting of National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Ad Hoc Committee on Protection of State Information Bill

The meeting of the National Council of Provinces’ (NCOP) Ad-hoc Committee on the Protection of State Information Bill, which was scheduled for Tuesday, 6 March 2012 in the Old Assembly, has been postponed to Wednesday, 7 March 2012 in the Old Assembly Chamber immediately after the NCOP sitting to allow members of the committee time to familiarise themselves with the received submissions.

The Ad-hoc Committee on the Protection of State Information Bill received an overwhelming number of written submissions totalling over 2400 pages from political parties, civil society, Chapter 9 institutions, academics and individuals.

The submissions also come after an extensive public consultation and education process that resulted in public hearings in all nine provinces where South Africans had the opportunity to express their views and also learn about the Bill.
