The Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform cordially invites members of the media to a two day Extension and Advisory Services Summit, which will serve as a platform to recognise excellence in extension services.
In 2005 national government introduced norms and standards for Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services. Flowing from that, a five pillar extension recovery plan was born. The pillars concentrate on the following areas: recruitment, re-orientation and re-skilling, provision of information and communications technology (ICT), visibility and accountability, professionalism and image.
Through the ERP, the department has been able to recruit new extension officers in a bid to ensure that extension and advisory services has competent personnel
Awards will be in the following categories: Top performers in advisory advisors, top performers in senior advisors, top performers in subject matter specialist, top performers in deputy managers and top managers in support services.
The six districts will also make presentations of their best projects in order to share experience, best practice. This is also to distil pockets of excellence, encourage and establish a cadre of extension officers that will make maximum footprint in the rural space.
