The Tourism Industry, the only economic driver in the Mqanduli and Coffee-Bay area, will be boosted by the urgent maintenance of the road between Mqanduli and Coffee Bay.
Roads & Public Works MEC Pemmy Majodina will officially announce the details of the R20 million-project during the sod turning and handing over of construction plant at a ceremony which will be held on Thursday, 29 April 2010. Construction will commence on 3 May.
The terrible condition of the road adversely affects tourism in the area; because big potholes are visible over a length of 16 km. The situation resulted into bad media publicity. The poor road access to Coffee-Bay would cause - if not repair - an opportunity loss in terms of income to business owners in the area during the Soccer World Cup month as well as other guests that normally visit the area during the school holidays.
The Department's visual inspection concluded that the major contributor to the failure of the road is the inadequate drainage system leading to the failure of the layer works.
The media is invited by MEC Majodina to attend the event.
