Members of the media are kindly invited to a Provincial Moral Regeneration Summit media briefing to be held on Thursday, 20 October 2011 at Mpekweni Beach Resort at 13h00. Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet, Member of Parliament and ANC Chief Whip Mathole Motshekga and the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders Chairperson Nkosi Ngangomhlaba Matanzima will be main speakers at the summit. The summit is coordinated by the provincial government, the House of Traditional Leaders and the provincial Interfaith Leaders Council and will focus on the following:
- to foster collaboration between government, religious and traditional leaders
- to develop a provincial plan for the Moral Regeneration Movement, an institutional arrangement and memorandum of understanding
- to revive the current structure
Its main objective is to strengthen the role of inter-faith communities in moral renewal and to trace the origin and the role of traditional leaders in preserving moral standards and practices. This is held in the context of the high levels of incidents of moral reprehensible behaviour and the involvement and leadership role of religious and traditional leaders has been identified as of paramount importance.
