The National Minister of Public Works, Ms Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde cordially invites you to attend the centennial celebrations of the International Women’s Day on Tuesday, 15 March 2011 at the Voortrekker Monument, in Pretoria.
The minister will host this event in order to acknowledge the economic, political and social achievements of women of the past, present and the future.
The department, through the event seeks to acknowledge all women internationally, all women in South Africa with special focus on young women and girl-children who form the basis of our future nation. The event seeks to elevate the position of women in society, empower them and foster the notion of equality due to them as mothers of the nation.
For the Department of Public Works, the issue of women empowerment poses a challenge as it is a global player that seeks to use its programmes and resources to provide South African women with equal access to education, training, science and technology as a pathway to decent work.
Department of Public Works also seeks to ensure that it alleviate challenges that women face in the built environment, thus ensuring that women become equitable active players of an inclusive economy.
