Media invitation to National Council of Provinces (NCOP) briefing by Mninwa Mahlangu

The Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), Mninwa Mahlangu invites members of the media to a media briefing of Taking Parliament to the People which will be held on Thursday, 6 October 2011 Sun Coast Towers Hotel, Marine Parade Durban.

In pursuit of its constitutional injunction of overseeing the executive by facilitating public participation, the NCOP through the programme Taking Parliament to the People (TPTP) will relocate to Nquthu Local Municipality in the District of uMzinyathi, KwaZulu-Natal from 7 to 11 November 2011.

Details of the event:
Time: 09h30
Date: 6 October 2011
Venue: Sun Coast Towers Hotel, Durban

Nquthu Local Municipality remains one of the most rural and underdeveloped local municipalities within the Mzinyathi District with high unemployment rate. This is what informed its choice as a home of this year’s chapter of Taking Parliament to the People.

Taking Parliament to the People programme serves another purpose of giving effect to the constitutional promise that the NCOP serves as a forum for ventilation of matters affecting provinces and at the heart of TPTP lies the philosophy that the NCOP is at the cutting edge of overseeing co-operative government.

This year’s TPTP will be a culmination of the research and oversight visits already undertaken by the Permanent Delegates and the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature (the Provincial Legislature) in preparation for the November visit.

Members of the media are invited to attend and must RSVP on or before 5 October 2011.
