Media invitation - Minister Dipuo Peters will address Nuclear Power Forum: 20 November 2009

The escalating demand for energy in South Africa and Africa – by both households and business, has opened the market to search for other sources of energy. One such alternative is nuclear power. While many countries are making substantial investments in this source, South Africa is yet to realize its potential stemming partly from a lack of knowledge around this power source, and incorrect information that has dimmed the public’s perception.

The conference is aimed at people who are interested in learning more about nuclear power. The topics to be covered on the day include inter alia; the need for nuclear power in Africa, South Africa’s nuclear power compared to other energy sources and the potential pace of nuclear power growth. These topics will be presented by experts in the field, who will lead discussions and encourage constructive thinking around these issues.

Some of the keynote speakers are:
* Ms Dipuo Peters, SA Minister of Energy
* Dr Kelvin Kemm, CEO of Stratek Business Strategy Consultants
* Dr Van Zyl De Villiers, General Manager of Engineering (NECSA)
* Prof Mike Sathekge, Head of Department for Nuclear Medicine at Steve Biko Hospital.

International case studies will be presented by world energy experts, in order to demonstrate the impact of nuclear power in their respective economies.
