Media invitation: Launch of 'When duty calls' crime-fighting programme

The Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa, Deputy Minister Fikile Mbalula and National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele in conjunction with SABC 2 management will launch the “When Duty Calls” TV programme (formerly known as Police File) on Thursday, 8 October 2009.

The launch is divided into two phases. Firstly, there will be a police roadblock in Diepsloot where the police management will join the local police in a crime search exercise as well as encouraging communities to work with police in fighting crime. The media is advised to gather outside Johannesburg Metro Police Department office at Ingonyama Street in Diepsloot where arrangements will be made for them to capture the roadblock in operation.

The final phase constitutes the formal proceedings, which will include a keynote address by the Minister, as well as messages of support by the Deputy Minister, the National Commissioner and SABC management. The SAPS-SABC partnership has assisted police in uncovering some of the dangerous criminals with the participation of communities. Through the previous programme, Police File, communities and police managed to locate missing persons, report crime and break silence on abuse cases. With the new revamped programme, Police hope to build on these successes and ensure that crime is reduced in our country.
