Media invitation: launch of community development projects in Hammanskraal

Background

The Department of Public Works through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) is currently implementing community development projects in Hammanskraal to improve the lives of the people as per the EPWP mandate of alleviating poverty through the provision of work opportunities to the unemployed.

The projects that are currently being implemented in the Hammanskraal area include the following, construction of the Apies River Bridge at a total cost of R1,8 million. The objective of the construction of this bridge is mainly to connect Temba community to other parts of the area, to allow access to essential services and to assist 3 000 community members who cross the Apies River on a daily basis. The project employs 20 local people and provides the following skills: welding, water purification and general construction skills.

The R3,2 million Hammanskraal pothole project in Nyathela street, Temba is also one of the EPWP projects underway which is in linewith the National Department of Public Works (NDPW) Ministerial call of repairing potholes with the objective of saving lives on our roads and improving infrastructure services. The project employs 34 labourers.
