You are invited to attend the Controlled Atmosphere and Post Harvest and Value Chain seminar, which will take place at Stellenbosch University on Tuesday, 1 December 2009 at 09:00. The highlight of this event will be the launch of the industry's long awaited Post-Harvest Innovation book by the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Derek Hanekom.
The Post-Harvest and Cold Chain Technologies Innovation Programme is a public-private partnership between the Department of Science and Technology, the Agricultural Research Council and the Fresh Produce Exporters' Forum. Launched in 2007, the programme aims to increase the industry's competitiveness through facilitating investments in post-harvest research and development, innovation and infrastructure.
As part of the knowledge management aspect of this programme, reports are published annually to evaluate progress and put associated learning in the public domain.

The fresh fruit industry has experienced a number of changes in the past 15 years, including deregulation and increased global competition. The introduction of this Programme has already assisted in addressing the technology gaps and associated research and development needs.
