The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (hereafter ‘the Commission), is constitutionally and legislatively mandated to forge national unity, peace, tolerance, ubuntu, nation building and social cohesion amongst and between the South African communities and various organs of the state and spheres of government.
The Commission since its inception in 2004 has been receiving cultural and religious complaints from various Rastafari community in South Africa about disputes they face on a daily basis by virtue of practising their cultural and spiritual way of life.
The CRL Rights Commission passed a resolution at its Gauteng 2008, second national consultative conference to undertake a national investigate research in order to know the plight of the South African Rastafari traditional religion and to highlight the challenges faced by these Community in South Africa post 1994.
The Commission will officially launch and hand over its report with recommendations on the challenges faced by the Rastafari communities to various national government departments such as Police force, Constitutional development and justice, Basic education, Labour, Environmental affairs, Correctional services, Home affairs, Trade and industry, Arts and culture, Communication (SABC) and Co-operative governance.
The launch of the CRL Rights Commission Report is scheduled as follows:
