Members of the media are cordially invited to the National Police Day, wherein the Minister of Police, Mr Nathi Mthethwa, will be officiating in the event to be hosted by the National Commissioner of the Police, Commissioner Bheki Cele.
During the year 2005, the Cabinet authorised 27 January to be the National Police Day. Through this day, efforts aimed at curbing crime by police members together with support rendered by civilian employees are recognised.
Following a fair performance in policing, festive season in particular, the national commissioner saw it fit to escalate the day as it is of national importance into a major event. In amassing members at a single location, Commissioner Cele strives to instil a sense of unity in the service under the theme: “South African Police (SAPS) Members, My Family”.
In addition, this celebration will not only serve to acknowledge the men and women in blue who dedicate their lives to protecting the general public but also prepare members for an action inclined 2010.
