Media conference on transfer of skills development and training sector to Higher Education and Training

As of Sunday, 1 November 2009 the Minister of Higher Education and Training will become officially responsible for the entire skills development and training sector in government.

The transfer of the skills development powers and functions from the Department of Labour is in line with Cabinet’s decision to create an integrated system of education and training with synergy between formal education and workplace training. The move is set to overhaul the education and training landscape in South Africa.

The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande will address a media conference on the implications of the transfer and the steps to be taken regarding the pending expiry of the mandate of the second national skills development strategy and the Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs).
