Media conference: The 43rd Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) is hosting the 43rd Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region under the theme: “Strengthening Legislative oversight to improve accountability, deepen democracy and consolidate growth and development in Africa”.

The CPA branch cordially invites you to the media briefing which is aimed at providing the platform for the media, to understand and have insight on what the CPA is all about, its objectives and its benefit to the citizenry.

The conference will be officially opened on the 3rd of July in which the ceremony will start at 9h00 – 12h30. The media briefing will be held immediately after the official opening on the below times:

Date: Tuesday, 3 July 2012
Venue: Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg
Time: 12h45 – 13h30

The following are some of the topics to be discussed for the duration of the Conference:

  • Enhancing Democracy and Accountability through Effective Oversight.
  • The Role of Parliaments in Eliminating and Reducing Maternal Mortality and Mobility through the Empowerment of Women.
  • The challenge of Parliaments in Safeguarding the National Development Interest in an Atmosphere where the Executive plays a Dominate Role.
  • Building Partnership to Address the Scourge of Terrorism and Piracy in the Region.

Delegates will be coming from the following African Branches:Botswana, Cameroon, and The Gambia’, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria (29 Sub-National Branches), Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, and South African (9 Sub National Branches), Swaziland, Tanzania and Sub National Branch (Zanzibar), Uganda, and Zambia.

NB: Should you be attending the briefing, please confirm your attendance, forward your names and collect accreditation cards by Monday, 2 July 2012 before 16h00.

Identity document or passports will be required. Collection will be done individually / in person as the accreditation card will be enclose a picture of each accredited individual.
