Transport announces strategic partnership concerning SA Agulhas, 30 Jan

The National Department of Transport and its entity, the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) will announce a ground-breaking strategic partnership concerning the S.A Agulhas on Tuesday, 30 January 2024. 

During the event, the Department and SAMSA will also launch the Seafarer Employment and Development Programme (SEDP), which is a new initiative aimed at enhancing maritime employment opportunities for South African seafarers.
 
SEDP will provide training, mentorship, and job placement assistance to qualifying Seafarers and will also serve as an international collaborative maritime research centre to address the ever-evolving needs of the maritime industry.
 
The Minister of Transport, Ms. Sindisiwe Chikunga will address the maritime stakeholders who will include South African and German delegations. The minister will also speak on the Maritime Roadmap to 2030 and the future of maritime development in South Africa, including capacity building and the need for meaningful stakeholder collaborations among others.
