Ministers Rob Davies and Aaron Motsoaledi brief media on Intellectual Property Policy, 31 May

Members of the media are invited to a media briefing by the Minister of Health,  Dr Aaron Motsoaledi and the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies on the Intellectual Property Policy of the Republic of South Africa Phase I (IP Policy – Phase I) which was approved by Cabinet on 23 May 2018.

The IP Policy – Phase I constitutes the first step in what will be a comprehensive IP Policy for South Africa to be updated over the medium term. The IP Policy has been developed pursuant to a phased approach. Phase I deals substantively with the intersection of IP and public health as well as South Africa’s approach to international IP cooperation. It also establishes a framework to enhance South Africa’s IP Policy in a manner characterised by strengthened intra-governmental cooperation and stakeholder consultation by putting in place the inter-Ministerial committee on IP (IMCIP).
