Minister Senzo Mchunu releases Drop Reports on state of water in country, 5 Dec

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu will on Tuesday, 05 December 2023, release the Drop Reports on drinking water quality, provision and waste water management in the country.

The Blue, Green and No Drop Certification programmes are incentive-based regulatory mechanisms of the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) to improve municipal drinking water quality, wastewater management as well as water conservation and demand management.

The reports will outline how various municipalities are performing in terms of their constitutional mandate of provision of water and sanitation services, recognise Water Services Authorities that are performing well, and outline interventions that are being put in place to strengthen regulations and support to those struggling to provide the basic services.

As the water sector regulator in terms of both the National Water Act and Water Services Act, DWS introduced these incentive-based regulation programmes first with the Blue Drop Report in 2008, the Green Drop Report in 2008 and the No Drop Report in 2014.

Minister Mchunu will be joined by deputy Minister, David Mahlobo and Judith Tshabalala.
