Lamola summons high ranking official to address flaws of the Parole system

Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Mr Ronald Lamola, has convened an urgent meeting with high ranking officials in the Department of Correctional Services and Chairpersons and Secretaries of Correctional Service Parole Boards in the Western Cape.

This follows cases of parolees allegedly committing heinous crimes in the Western Cape which include raping and killing of children.

Lamola echoes the concerns of South Africans around the efficacy of the parole system. The two-day meeting will urgently address the systemic flaws in the parole system.

The meeting has been tasked to review parole cases, which have been granted in the last financial year in the Western Cape and evaluate whether there has been any failure to comply with the processes and procedures of the Correctional Services Act.
