Minister Lindiwe Zulu briefs media on social relief measures to mitigate impact of Covid-19 pandemic, 26 Feb

The Minister of Social Development, Ms Lindiwe Zulu will brief members of the media on various social relief measures that the Department is implementing to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the most vulnerable groups.

These measures include ECD Stimulus Package, Special COVID-19 SRD Grant and provide progress on the application and payment of Temporary Disability Grant, funding for civil society organisations implementing victim empowerment programmes, amongst others.

Minister Zulu will also provide progress on the Department’s interventions in Masiphumelele informal settlement which was declared a disaster area after a fire destroyed more than a thousand homes in December last year. The Department and its agency SASSA provided immediate relief and response to more than 6000 residents affected by the fire. Later in the day, Minister Zulu will visit Masiphumelele with OneAfrica.org to distribute food vouchers to individuals and families affected by the fire disaster.
