Mininster Rob Davies briefs media on SA/Saudi Joint Economic Commission outcomes, 20 Mar

The outcomes of the 5th Session of the SA/Saudi Joint Economic Commission to be announced

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies and his Saudi Arabia counterpart, Dr Twafeeq Al Rabeeach will brief the media on the resolutions of the 5th session of the two countries’ Joint Economic Commission (JEC) which is taking place from 18 to 20 March 2014.

The fourth session of the South Africa-Saudi Arabia JEC held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2012 resolved to increase total trade between the two countries to a targeted R60 billion within the next five years.

The two co-chairs of the South Africa–Saudi Arabia Business Council will also provide feedback to the JEC on the outcomes of the Business Forum which took place on Tuesday, 18 March 2014.

The JEC is co-chaired by the two Ministers and is an initiative agreed upon between the two countries in order to strengthen economic ties, to attract foreign direct investment from Saudi Arabia into South Africa in targeted sectors and to promote sound business-to-business cooperations.
