Gauteng Department of Rural Development and Land Reform invites members of the media

Kindly note that the media briefing is postponed until further notice.

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform cordially invites members of the media to a media briefing to be held on 13 December 2012, at Holiday Inn Express Hotel at 12h00. 2013 marks 100 years since the promulgation of the 1913 Natives Land Act, a discriminatory piece of legislation through which the majority of black South Africans were dispossessed of their land rights.

The horrendous effects of the implementation of the 1913 Natives Land Act by the previous regime are evident everywhere across the country.

Eighteen years since the democratic government came into office, decisive, progressive strides have been made to reverse the negative legacy of a prejudiced legislation effected by the apartheid government.

The Provincial Senior Managers will share amongst others information on the following work of the department:

  • 2013 project (the 1913 land act centenary)
  • The Commemoration of the 1913 Land Act
  • The progress of Rural Development and Land Reform in the Province

The event is scheduled as follows:
Date: 13 December 2012
Venue: Holiday Inn Express Hotel (cnr Jeppe and Esselen)
