Gauteng Department of Rural Development and Land Reform invites members of the media

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform cordially invites members of the media to a media briefing to be held on 4 February 2013, Protea Hotel, Hatfield in Pretoria. 2013 marks 100 years since the promulgation of the 1913 Natives Land Act, a discriminatory piece of legislation through which the majority of black South Africans were dispossessed of their land rights.

The horrendous effects of the implementation of the 1913 Natives Land Act by the previous regime are evident everywhere across the country.

Eighteen years since the democratic government came into office; decisive, progressive strides have been made to reverse the negative legacy of a prejudiced legislation effected by the apartheid government.

  • 2013 project (the 1913 land act centenary)
  • reopening of the lodgement of land claims
