Free State Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs invites media to kasie tourism in Mangaung, 3 Aug

Take a short left and experience your own kasie

South African townships are rich with history, culture, special cuisine and tourist attractions which often do not make it to the tourism value chain. The Free State Kasie Tourism campaign, which is the Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) flagship programme intends to turn this situation around.

In an effort to upscale the Mangaung tourism products, sixty (60) tourism role players namely, academics, financial institutions, tour operators, travel agencies, restaurant owners and event organisers will participate in this exciting excursion of familiarization with different tourism attractions.

Through this, the tourism industry in Mangaung will gain opportunities such as development and empowerment of kasie tourism products, promotion and creation awareness of kasie / township attractions, creation of economic opportunities for township residents and local entrepreneurs, to close the gap of exclusion of township tourism enterprises from the mainstream and increase market access opportunities for township tourism enterprises.

The tour will commence with a tour guide from Destinate car wash to various attractions such as Naval Hill, Waaihoek, Maphikela House, Digareteneng, Heroes Park to mention but a few. DESTEA will further use the tour as a platform to engage about tourism challenges, interventions and opportunities.

Tourism is one of the fasted growing sectors in the country. Given the attention it deserves this sector can contribute immensely to economic development and job creation.
