Statistics shows that, to date, one thousand two hundred cooperatives have been registered on the Provincial Procurement Data Base. According to Companies Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) the overall number of cooperatives registered in the Free State Province is currently standing at two thousand one hundred and sixty five (2 165).
A media campaign is in process to create the awareness and blitz around the importance of cooperatives to the economy of the province and the country at large as well as explaining government`s plans with regards to assisting cooperatives financially and otherwise.
The Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs is leading the campaign and has extended the cut of date of registration to Friday 13 /09/ 2013. The media is invited to a briefing session of progress report, success and challenges presented by the campaign.
