Media briefing by the Minister of Finance

Please be advised that the Minister of Finance, Mr Pravin Gordhan, and the South African Revenue Service (SARS) Commissioner Mr Oupa Magashula will brief the media on the preliminary outcome of the revenue collection drive for the 2011/12 financial year.

The current financial year ends on 31 March 2012 which is on a Saturday. The Minister of Finance and the South African Revenue Service (SARS) Commissioner will announce the preliminary outcome of revenue collected at midday on Sunday, 1 April 2012 which is within the customary 12 hour period after the end of the financial year.

The Minister of Finance will also unveil the new SARS Compliance Programme which will provide details to the media and the public of SARS's plans for the coming year to further grow the levels of compliance with tax and customs legislation in specific industries and sectors of the domestic economy.

All media are invited to attend the media briefing. Media are also requested to make the necessary arrangements for interviews following the announcements.
