Tomorrow, the Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development will welcome a group of boys who underwent traditional circumcision in Etwatwa, Ekurhuleni.
The 31 boys, is the first group to be circumcised under the collaboration of the department with the Traditional Leaders.
In pursuit of having safe medical circumcision, the Traditional Leaders of Pedis in the province, approached the department to assist with the surgeries.
Physical examination was done by medical personnel to exclude various infections before the boys underwent medical circumcision and then taken back to the circumcision school for the customary processes.
Medical Male Circumcision has been found through research to reduce the transmission on HIV infection to men by 60%.
The National Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and MEC Ntombi Mekgwe are expected to attend this ceremony.
