A new body which will champion human resource development in South Africa will be launched by Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe next week. The Human Resource Development Council (HRD Council) is a national multi-tiered and multi-sectoral advisory body comprising representatives from government, civil society, business, organised labour, professional bodies, higher education and research communities.
The HRD Council will champion the implementation of the Human Resource Development Strategy (HRDS), oversee alignment and coordination efforts. It will also help to identify policy and implementation blockages and recommend appropriate and sustainable solutions to overcome such hurdles.
The HRD Council will be led and chaired by the Deputy President. The Minister of Higher Education and Training is setting up the Secretariat which will support the Council and its sub-committees such as the Technical Working Group.
