President Jacob Zuma declares an official funeral for Ms Bertha Gxowa President Jacob Zuma has designated the funeral of liberation struggle hero and veteran, Ms Nonkumbi Bertha Gxowa as a special provincial funeral.
In this regard the President has authorised that the National Flag be flown at half-mast at every flag station in the Gauteng province on Saturday, 27 November 2010, the day of the funeral.
Ms Gxowa passed on last Thursday, 19 November 2010 at a Johannesburg hospital.
Born on 28 November 1934 in Germiston, Ma-Bertha dedicated her life to the struggle against apartheid and the building of a non-racial, non-sexist and democratic South Africa.
The funeral service will be held at Huntersfield in Ekurhuleni at 08h00 am. She will then be laid to rest at Thomas Nkobi (South Park) cemetery.
