What: Equity in the realisation of child rights in South Africa

Why: The SA Human Rights Commission and UNICEF invite members of the media to the opening of the workshop Equity in the Realisation of Child Rights in South Africa taking place from 23 to 25 March 2011.

The workshop seeks to find solutions to the disparities among children in South Africa in terms of poverty levels, child development and access to essential services among provinces and other socio-economic determinants such as income, race and gender.

The media are also invited to the launch of the report South Africa's Children - A Review of Equity and Child Rights, a joint publication of the South African Human Rights Commission and UNICEF. The report will be made public following a statement by the Minister for Women, Children and Persons with Disability, Lulama Xingwana.

The media are invited to the opening on 23 March, from 9:30 to 10:30, and at the launch of the report on Thursday, from 9:15 to 9:45.
