Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan will chair the next meeting of the Committee of 10 African Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (C10) on 21 February 2010, taking place in Cape Town. Media are invited to attend the opening session of this meeting, which will focus on an update of the financial crisis on Africa and post-crisis response, the G20 work plan and financial issues arising from Copenhagen.

The C10 was formed to consider and develop an African response to the global financial crisis after a meeting of African finance ministers and central bank governors in November 2008.

It was convened by the heads of the African Development Bank, African Union Commission and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. The committee comprises the Finance Ministers of South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Cameroon and Tanzania. The central bank governors on the committee represent Botswana, Kenya, Algeria, West African States and Central African states.

The first meeting of the committee was held on 16 January 2009, and subsequent meetings have been held in Dar es Salaam and Abuja. These meetings have covered topics including the G20 agenda and identified priority issues for Africa, the role of financial regulations, and voice and representation in international financial institutions.

Outcomes include an agreed upon initial response to be fed into the G20,developing a forward work programme and opportunities to present African views and identifying and commissioning additional information and analysis.

The opening session on Sunday will include remarks by Finance Minister Gordhan, President of the African Development Bank, Donald Kaberuka, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Abdoulie Janneh, and Commissioner of the African Union Commission, Maxwell Mkwezalamba.
