In its continuous effort to unite and stop work that harms youth and children, the Department of Labour as the leading department on matters of child labour will host World Day against Child Labour in Turfontein Race course on Friday, 4 June 2010. With the Theme “Go for the goal end child labour” the department will promote awareness and action to tackle child labour and create understanding of the law (briefing session regarding Children in Performing Arts (Sectoral Determination 10).

Child labour is work which is exploitative, hazardous or otherwise inappropriate for the age of the child, or which is detrimental to the child’s schooling or places at risk his/her social physical, mental, spiritual or moral development. Both paid and unpaid work can constitute child Labour provided they meet the above criteria.

Amongst expected guests are International Labour Organisation (ILO), Organised Business (Agri SA) South African Police Service (SAPS), Departments of Health and Social Development and 2010 Ambassador Doctor Khumalo. Join us and add your voice to the worldwide movement against child labour.
