North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa is scheduled to meet with farmers unions in Mafikeng on Wednesday in an effort to address concerns of the agriculture sector regarding crime in rural communities.
The objective of the meeting is to strengthen partnership with the agriculture sector for an intensified war against stock theft and prevention of farm attacks and violence involving farmers and farm workers.
MEC Yawa had during presentation of his departmental policy statement and budget speech indicated that as part of the war against crime, his department will focus on strengthening policing in rural communities. Measures to be implemented in this regard include among others the activation of Provincial Anti Stock Theft Forum and launch of village committees.
Meetings with traditional leaders, farmers and farm workers are also in the pipeline.
