North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa is to engage provincial stakeholders on the 2008/09 annual crime statistics report to be presented to an inclusive stakeholders’ forum at 10h00 on Friday, 16 October 2009 at the Mmabatho Civic Centre in Mafikeng.
“It is at a local level that the war against crime has to be won hence we value the involvement of all sections of our communities in determining appropriate interventions and support required for us to break the backbone of criminality,” says MEC Yawa.
The objective of the provincial focus on the crime statistics is to account as regards implementation of the national crime prevention strategy, share challenges and approaches pertaining to initiatives and programmes to reduce the scourge of crime. It is also intended to mobilise support and strengthen partnerships for an intensified war against crime.
Members of the Portfolio Committee on Public Safety, criminal justice cluster, business against crime North West, representatives of the House of Traditional leaders, Church organisations, faith based organisations, municipalities, farmers organisations, youth ,women, Community Policing Forums (CPF), non-governmental organisations’ (NGO’s) and the media are among some of the invited delegates expected to attend the session.
