North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa is to table his 2010/11 departmental policy statement and budget speech in the North West Provincial Legislature at 09h00 on Thursday, 20 May 2010.
The theme of MEC Yawa speech for this financial year is “Climbing towards our moment of glory” .The speech will among others highlight achievements of the department, challenges facing the department, plans to overcome the challenges and programme to be implemented in the current financial year.
Yawa will also use the opportunity to recognise road safety ambassadors, role models in the war against crime and to report back on:
- Lessons learnt during the Confederation Cup and state of readiness towards Football World Cup matches to be hosted at Royal Bafokeng Stadium
- Success of the 2010 Firearm Amnesty Campaign in the North West Province
- Elimination of crime hotspots
- Road safety plan for the Football World Cup
- Implementation of rural safety plan
- Investigations on maladministration and corruption in the issuing of learner licenses and drivers licenses and withdrawal of licenses
- Investigations of service delivery complaints against the police
- Investigations of allegations of corruption and involvement of police in criminal activities
- Extension of services to rural communities.
Representatives from Provincial Justice Crime Prevention Safety Cluster Departments, Members of Mayoral Committees for Public Safety and Directors for Public Safety from municipalities across the province, South African Police Service Provincial Management, Members of the Provincial Community Policing Board, Provincial Community Road Safety Council, representatives of cluster and station Community policing forums, sponsors, stakeholders, management and employees of the Department of Public Safety are expected to attend the presentation session.
