MEC Thandiswa Marawu to launch Masicoce Clean-up project

In an effort to mobilise communities in and around the Bhisho / King William's Town area to come together in a project that promotes the cleaning and greening of our small towns and thus opening up an opportunity of job creation, Roads & Public Works MEC Thandiswa Marawu will tomorrow launch the Masicoce Cleaning-up Project.

Operation Clean Up find resonance within the broader framework of the Small Town Revitalisation Programme wherein all community stakeholders such as hawkers, taxi associations and ordinary members of the community take part in the cleaning and maintenance of their towns and its surroundings.

The clean-up, which will be done by Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) workers and municipality employees, is as a result of a partnership the department has with Buffalo City Metro. The cleaning will include litter picking, gutter cleaning, street sweeping, refuse collection and bush cutting in the Bhisho/King William's Town area.

The Small Towns Revitalisation Programmes is one of the flagship programmes of the department. It endeavours, through the utilisation of the Eastern Cape Provincial Government immovable asset portfolio to unlock the potential of the small towns, creating further work opportunities – putting people to work through various Expanded Public Works Programmes.
