MEC Soviet Lekganyane to lead team CoGHSTA in partnership with Limpopo women business structures, NGOs and CBOs in changing lives of the abused- 16 Days of Activism against Gender Abuse

The MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), Mr Soviet Lekganyane will hand-over 16 houses to 16 needy families as part of 16 Days of Activism against gender - based violence campaign. 

16 Days of Activism is observed from 25 November to 10 December every year. It is an international initiative originating from and sponsored by the Centre for Women's Global Leadership in 1991, aimed at curbing the gender-based violence within societies.

In support of this campaign, MEC Lekganyane will be leading Team CoGHSTA, in partnership with the well known women business structures, non-governmental organisations and Community Based Organisations, during the handing over 16 homes to 16 families at Nare-Letsoalo Village (previously known as Ga-Ntjontjodi - Ga-Maja at 10h00 am, 6 December 2011.

The handover of these homes will also incorporate the internal initiative of giving back to the communities serve by Team CoGHSTA, whereby clothes, groceries and toys are donated by staff members, through a “Donate- a Gift” campaign, which has become CoGHSTA’s Corporate Social Investment programme.

This 16-Days period also highlights other significant dates including International Women Human Rights Defenders Day, World AIDS Day, International Disability Day and the Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre. The campaign has been used by individuals and groups around the world, as an organising mechanism to call for the elimination of all forms of violence against women, children and men.
