MEC Robin Carlisle joins awareness campaign at Buttskop and Simonsvlei Level Crossings

Robin Carlisle, MEC for Transport and Public Works in the Western Cape will tomorrow morning join Metrorail and Transnet on a public awareness campaign to mark International Level Crossing Awareness Day, at Buttskop and Simonsvlei level crossings respectively.

Ten children died on the morning of 21 August 2010 when taxi driver Jacob Humphreys zigzagged around the booms at Buttskop level crossing in Blackheath. Humphreys faces 10 counts of murder.

Two motorists have been killed by trains at the Simonsvlei level crossing near Paarl in the past 8 months.
