MEC Qwase to visit two of Port Elizabeth’s (PE’s) northern area schools tomorrow

The belt tightening measures have not stopped the Eastern Cape Department of Education from providing the Chetty Settlement community in Port Elizabeth with a school despite the austere budgetary constraints. Other than lack of social and economic facilities, the community of Chatty Settlement has been without a schooling structure since its roughly 10 year establishment.

The Education department has acceded to this outcry and appeals for a school in the area through promising to build a combined school from Grade R to Grade 12 for the benefit of all children in the area. Whilst the handover of the building site took place today, Eastern Cape Education MEC Mahlubandile Qwase will be visiting this location tomorrow to subsequently and officially launch (turn-the-sod) the Chatty Combined School construction project and also address the community members and representatives thereof.

As part of the visit in this district on the same day, MEC Qwase will be visiting the Booysen Park Secondary School, whose 11 out of 40 classrooms were considerably affected by fire recently, will be undergoing restoration. The reconstruction is anticipated to commence as of 1 November 2010.

The envisaged programme for the visit is as follows:

Venue: Chetty Settlement Community Hall
Time: 09h45
Date: 14 September 2010

NB: Members of the media are especially urged to join us for this important and timely event.
