North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa is to visit 40 years old Oupa
Mokgalagadi at the Bophelong Hospital on Monday morning. Mokgalagadi was admitted to the hospital after being shot by a Lichtenburg farmer on Thursday evening for trespassing on his grazing camp.
It is alleged that Mokgalagadi and a friend took a shortcut through the farmers’ gracing camp on their way from Rooigrond to Kgomola village.
Some of the neighbouring farmers who spotted them while patrolling the area allegedly informed the farmer who subsequently proceeded to the camp with a firearm. The friend to Mokgalagadi managed to run away while Mokgalagadi tried to hide in the nearby bushes, the farmer shot him once in the right leg.
A 49 years old farmer is under police guard at General Delaray Hospital for arrest upon being released in what is suspected to be an attempt to stay out of jail. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
