North West, Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison MEC Desbo Mohono will deliver her departmental budget speech at the North West provincial legislature on Thursday, 21 April 2011.
The MEC is expected to reflect on her departmental achievements and challenges in the past financial year and further outline the new department’s policy commitments for this financial year. This will be the first budget speech for a newly merged Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison.
The MEC will further outline the departmental plans in combating crime and the creation of human settlements concept across the province. She is expected to reflect on the process of eradicating informal settlements in various municipalities. The MEC will also emphasise the Arrive Alive message, especially in the context of the approaching Easter holidays. She will also make a call to communities to work together with the police to help fight crime.
