The plight of vulnerable groups that include disadvantaged rural families, people with disabilities and child headed households is being addressed through a housing development project to be unveiled by the North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono. The project is to be launched at Kokomeng village in Taung in the North West Province on Tuesday.
The need for the intervention was identified by MEC Mohono while engaging with communities in her constituency. The MEC made a commitment that her department would construct houses in the village as part of its contribution towards the 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children campaign and as part of addressing the housing backlog in the province.
As part of the launch, MEC Mohono will donate food parcels to more than hundred families some of whom are beneficiaries in the housing project underway in Kokomeng.
Beneficiaries were jointly identified in partnership with the Department of Social Development, Women, Children and People with disabilities through Greater Taung Local Municipality’s indigent register.
