MEC Marawu to open Sterkspruit Registering Authority

MEC for Transport Thandiswa Marawu will open the Sterkspruit Registering Authority at the Senqu Municipal Building on Thursday, 20 October 2011 at 09h00.

A registering authority is an authority which has a mandate of:

  • Application for introducing motor vehicles
  • Registering motor vehicles
  • Licensing motor vehicles
  • Reduce tare weight of new trucks
  • Issue duplicate registration certificates

There are currently 59 of these registering authorities around the province.

From there the MEC will officially open the Burgersdorp Junior Traffic Training Centre next to the graveyard at 11h00.

These centres, which are known as miniature training centres, are build to be an all access area, which are not only meant to educate and familiarise kids on concepts, skills and attitudes related to traffic safety, but to provide them with the insight on how to make use of other service delivery places including, clinics and post office.

They are targeted at Primary school kids and are seen as a way of addressing limitations of learners with regard to safe participation and hopefully reduce serious casualties from road crashes.

Their aim is to impart the acquisition of knowledge pertaining to the following:

  • Safe pedestrian behaviour
  • Traffic safety rules
  • Traffic signs
  • Road markings
  • Pedestrians and driver skills in a safe simulated traffic situation
  • Positive attitude in road usage
