MEC Marawu to open Mbizana traffic station and taxi rank

MEC for Transport, Roads and Public Works Thandiswa Marawu will officially open the Mbizana Traffic Station and Taxi Rank, on Thursday 5 May 2011 at Mbizana Sports grounds at 10h00.

Having previously used a structure adjacent to Spar as their offices, which was an inconvenience for both the shop and traffic control, Spar approached the local municipality with the purpose of expanding its business, with municipality agreeing to this proposal Spar proceeded to build the offices.

The officers will now have a newly built and furnished R4.2 million station consisting of 13 offices, boardroom and duty room

The newly constructed taxi rank will be handed over to the Mzamba and Mbizana taxi associations and the public for official use.

“The taxi industry in Mbizana has in the past been plagued with violence over various issues including routes and occupation of spaces. Thus the milestone of this hand over is seen as the final step in the peace building process, as it will bring commuters and operators under one roof, working together”, says MEC Marawu.

The rank which cost R12 million to build has been fitted with some very impressive features, such as marked parking bays, toilet facilities, shelters and market stalls which are to be utilised  by small business owners for various services.
