Gauteng MEC for Finance, Mr Mandla Nkomfe, will host a post budget presentation roundtable with leaders of civil society and business to further thrash out details on the implementation.
In keeping with the ANC’s commitment to drive accelerated service delivery through a consultative and decisive decision making process, MEC Nkomfe will solicit views on how best to fast track government delivery following his presentation on the spending priorities.
MEC Nkomfe led the assault against fragmented delivery yesterday by being the first MEC to table a budget based on funding outcomes rather than departments. This approach ensures that the various departments are compelled to work together to deliver the required outcome, making redundant the silo approach to service delivery.
According to the MEC, emphasis now is on ensuring that organised business, funding institutions and civil society broadly share our perspective on measures to be taken to meet our development goals.
“We will therefore focus on the implications of the budget on service delivery, development financing within a shrinking resource base, poverty eradication and the strengthening of the Gauteng economy,” says MEC Nkomfe.
The roundtable discussion will feature a panel discussion and discussions with the invited guests. MEC Nkomfe will share the stage with Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Mr Firoz Cachalia, Head of the Gauteng Planning Commission and Special Advisor to Premier Mokonyane, Mr Ignatius Jacobs and a leading economist representing the provincial government’s banker, Absa
