MEC Mahlangu to table 2010/11 Economic Development, Environment and Tourism Policy and Budget vote

The MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism in Mpumalanga, Mr JL (Jabu) Mahlangu will address the Mpumalanga Legislature to provide feedback on the progress made on plans presented to the legislature last August. This will happen when he tables the Departmental Policy and Budget Speech for 2010/11 financial year, on the date underneath.

The speech will also focus on the plans for the current financial year. Amongst others, the Department and its public entities successfully performed the following:

* Held a successful Economic Summit with the intension of mitigating the effects of the economic recession (15 to 16 October 2009).
* Facilitated the participation of a number of emerging exporters;
* Signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between three cities (our province represented by the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA), the Swaziland Tourism Agency and the National Tourism Institute of Mozambique) to collectively promote and advance tourism within the region.
* Launched the tourism airlift contract with Comair (4 May 2010).
* Merged the old Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA), Mpumalanga Agricultural Development Corporation (MADC) and Mpumalanga Housing Finance Company (MHFCO) to create a new super entity, to be known as MEGA (31 March 2010).
