MEC Magome Masike visit health facilities in Vendersdorp

North West Health MEC, Dr. Magome Masike will this Friday, 18 November 2011 continue his unannounced visits to health facilities in an effort to improve delivery of health services. MEC Masike will visit JB Marks clinic and Vendersdorp hospital within the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda district at 10h00 respectively.

MEC Masike’s visit to health facilities since his appointment in November 2010 have significantly improved service delivery especially in areas highlighted by communities through complaints procedures. In his latest visit to Silvergrans clinic in Tlokweng, MEC Masike uncovered that the 24 hour clinic has been without running water for months despite operating a maternity ward. Patients at the clinic told the MEC that pregnant women due for delivery bring their own water. The MEC it made very clear that the practice was unacceptable and demanded immediate action from the District Chief Director to remedy the situation.

MEC’s visits resulted in decentralisation of maintenance budget to the Districts to ensure that the budget is spent where it is most needed and when it is needed to speed up service delivery. More than half of the maintenance budget was spent in the last quarter (between January and March 2011) of last financial year because of the internal challenges.

The media are invited.
